Sebagai contoh, coba perhatikan gambar di atas. Pada gambar tersebut, ada seorang wanita yang memakan buah apel sehingga kita bisa membuat kalimat aktifnya sebagai berikut:

  Wanita itu memakan donat.

Pada kalimat aktif di atas, kedudukan the woman berfungsi sebagai subject dari kalimat sedangkan the apple berkedudukan sebagai object dari kalimat.

Untuk mengubah kalimat aktif tersebut menjadi pasif, kita pindah posisi subject ke belakang kalimat dan object ke bagian depan kalimat. Kemudian ubah kata kerja yang digunakan menjadi: be + past participle (V3).

  Donat itu dimakan oleh wanita.
